Windsor Library ‘Baileys’ Event

Posted on June 2, 2015

On June 3rd I have been asked to speak at the Windsor Guildhall about Anne Tyler’s ‘A Spool of Blue Thread.’  Each book shortlisted for the 2015 Baileys Women’s Prize For Fiction has been allotted a champion and five minutes before the actual winner is announced, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite and the Windsor winner will be revealed.  The whole thing is organised by Windsor library.  I attended another event there at Christmas and the energy, enthusiasm and vibrancy of this place and its staff is extraordinary.  Anyone thinking of closing a local library should be forced to spend a day, gaffer taped to a chair there and they would soon see the error of their ways.

I have the good fortune to be waving my flag for Anne Tyler.  I’ve just finished sorting out what I’m going to say and have had to cut it down from hours and hours of adulation to a concise, no-nonsense but nevertheless heartfelt cheer.
