Everyone keeps telling me that publication day is a terrible anti-climax. I can’t help it, I am expecting to wake up and open my curtains and see the ‘Who Will Buy?’ scene from ‘Oliver’ unfolding, with me as Mark Lester, blinking in the sunlight. There will be milkmaids with their pails overflowing with copies of  ‘Beautiful Day’ – ‘Any books today, meestress?’  There will be pink blossom fluttering on the breeze, small children, policemen and knife grinders leaping and dancing – the works.

Statistically with a debut novel, the likelihood is that I will be in a dark corner mumbling the lyrics of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Mis.  We shall see…..

(I’ve just had a rather uncomfortable flashback – I was once a member of the Mark Lester Fan Club.  I wonder if it’s still up and running.)

Woohoo! How lovely to hear from you. I have only just recovered from hearing you on ‘Ramblings’ – had to pull the car over and cheer. xxx

Got something to say?
